What are 'Susan's Sunflowers?'

The story of Susan:

Susan was a beloved family-pet cockatiel who courageously journeyed with us as we braved a cross-country relocation via our converted school bus. Perched upon the captain's chair and peering out the windows at the vastly changing landscapes, in Susan's eyes emerged a glint of heart-swelling curiosity. What wondrous new sights of natural worlds she all but had lost hope to find though dreamed must have existed. We allowed her out of her cage and the ability to free roam with us within our home, though it was evident her heart was always made for the skies. One opportune day, Susan dove headlong and flew out from the port hole of her limits and into the blinding light of her new lands, and skies. Just like that, she was gone from us and the protections of our home.

I like to think it not a tragedy of a tiny domestic bird in an unnaturally wild world... rather, I believe, her heart needed that leap towards the sun. No matter if we burn out in its heat, if within us dwells a yearning to grow nearer to the sun... then we will no more be satisfied until we do burn up flying headlong into its light.

After her apparent immolation-of-transcendence, there was a small amount of bird seed left that I kept, with hope, for more than a year, at the chance she'd return. As that hope settled into an acceptance of goodbye, I planted the sunflowers of Susan's seeds, as a tribute, a sort of living-on of her vibration, of the seeds that once made up the being-body of all she would become. I wasn't sure if they'd grow, but I found that up sprang an abundance of varied sunflowers from these plantings. Each one vibrant, delightful and bold, just like whatever inspiration had sprang up from within the heart of dear Susan. 

In each of these sunflowers lives the ever sun-seeking brave reminder to leap towards your heart's song, no matter the cost. For it is only THERE that YOU ARE... if you do not go there then you will spend all your time wishing to. End your wistful gazing out the window of your own life and go find what's really there for you. Enjoy your journey with some inspiration from a bouquet of Susan's Sunflowers.
